Client's Brief

Rinnai where tasked with the providing the hot water requirements for the staff quarters, on site laundry, prep and staff kitchens, the main Restaurant, and service facilities for the resort spread over many hectares.

Working with the Hydraulic Designer and Architect on the project a mix of Rinnai Gas Tankless Commercial Technologies was employed to give the best mixture of capital cost operational efficiency and running costs, whilst maintaining Resplendent Ceylon’s unwavering commitment to sustainability.

Approved Solution: Rinnai Gas Manifold with Demand Duo Storage Tanks

For the Laundry, a Manifold Pack 4 with electronic staging was located to directly serve the washing machines providing up to 104 litres per minute raised 25 degrees Celsius. This system was chosen due to the intermittent use of the Washing machines so that no energy would be consumed when hot water wasn’t required.

For the Staff Accommodation facilities that house over 80 staff and Managers as well as the main prep Kitchen, a Demand Duo 2 system incorporating a 315 litre stainless steel tank and dual primary pumps, was installed on a hot water ring main. This system can provide up to 1835 litres of 65 degrees celcius hot water in the 1st hour with a recovery capacity of 1520 litres every subsequent hour. The main Restaurant kitchen at the beach front also has a Demand Duo 2 installed.

To complete the brief, single Rinnai gas tankless water heaters are strategically placed throughout the complex to serve the hot water requirements for the maids service stations, the welcome area and washroom facilities. Again this reduces running costs of the complex by only heating water when required.

Gas Hot Water was chosen for the project due to the significant decrease in electrical infrastructure costs given the sheer size of the complex as well as the running costs Rinnai Gas Tankless systems provide.

This solution was chosen for the following reasons:

  • A mix of technologies are available to best suit the project requirements
    Built in redundancy if required.
  • Significant reduction in Running costs can be achieved.
  • Quick heat up times for Demand Duo Systems meaning less stored volume required.
  • No standing heat loss for Manifold pack systems or Single Gas Tankless water heaters.
  • Local Service Agents in the region.
  • Long standing projects in operation in the region over many years.
